1861 census for Yorkshire, Bingley shows a George Wilkinson, quarryman and a Mary Wilkinson with son Samuel born 1879 in Bingley. Is this them? |

hi Jane ive looked at the bit which wasn't free bmd. i started on free bmd site, the site says limited info for the years i was looking for. instead i looked through allthe scanned pages on ancestry to try to find him. took along time and was fed up with no result. however i did find his wife that way before so not completely disatisfied tonight. cheers k |

sometimes '21' was put on a cert instead of full age and didn;t necessarily mean they were 21. |

oh eck, I've seen more samuel wilkinsons from the correct area than i could shake a stick at. Silly me for expecting his middle name to be recorded too. I thought also that when it said 'male' that it was an infant death and so they hadn't named the child. looks like a very hit and miss on the certs then. ta k |

What was his father's name and occupation? Was he born in Bradford (according to later census?)? Merry |

Unfortunately it wasn't the law that births should be registered until 1875, so he may not have been. You might be lucky and find a baptism though. Anne |

Have you checked using the non freeBMD section? USe the bit that says something like 'browse the entire catologue' or something similar. I've had a few beers so may be more help tomorrow |

There was no penalty for non registration until 1875! Merry |

i've got a marriage cert with age and full name of the groom, Samuel edward wilkinson aged 21 married 1876. by my calculations that makes him born in 1855 or 1554 depending on whether or not he had had his birthady that yr before he got married. So why, when i check through the birth records on ancestry every year from 1850 to 1859, can't i find him? I thought he may have lied about his age, but not more than 5 yrs surely? Are these full records or are there some missing? Getting very frustrated here. This is my problem family again!! Any advice please!!!! cheers Karen |
