David - thinking about St Botolphs, it would seem that from www.history.ac.uk/gh/parrec.htm the parish registers are kept at the Guildhall. Maybe someone going to the Guildhall could have a look for you? Not sure about Pancras - may be there or at the LMA? Joy |

Hi Anne It just says no occupation! But then that seems to be quite common with deaths in infirmaries or workhouses. The informant was just someone whose address was given as the infirmary - not a relation. Hiya Julie I do have those ones - not sure if they tie in anywhere or not yet:) Thanks:) |

So on the death certificate in your first message what does it say in the 'occupation' box? It would usually say wife of ......, or widow of ....... Does it say who the informant is - presumably someone medical? Anne |

Thanks for that Joy - will bear him in mind although I haven't yet got a baptism for Alexander - the baptisms for St Botolphs are absent from the IGI for the years I want and it seems that extremely possible siblings are baptised there. JEANETTE!!! Ta muchly;)) |

Hi Jess Yep got him thanks. But can't find his parents anywhere. They would have been in the Pancras/Greys Inn Lane area and I'm sure that there are sections of that missing. Can't find Eleanor on the 1871 either though. |

Hi Jean Sorry - knew I'd missed some info. Ellen Harriet Carr's birth cert has mother Ann Carr formerly Strachan. I think the Ellen recorded as mother is actually mother-in-law (ie grandmother to the children Hi Julie Thanks:) Haven't got Alexander's death yet but think I have found it in Holborn in 1870. There doesn't seem to be a marriage for Charles and Ann (who I think is the Nancy on the 1851 - Ann's birthplace varies) but a few of the family downwards didn't marry or married very late:) |

I think you are looking for a daughter born shortly before/after the 1831 marriage, to be the married Carr, although admittedly the dates are tight. Ellen Strachan, Grandmother, could of course be HIS mother, not hers and its all a coincidence of dates and birthplace. There is a ten year gap between the marriage and the first census you have - ten years could have produced a lot of children you dont know about! OC |

Jean.... | Report | 15 Jul 2006 11:19 |
David..if Ellen is grandmother to Chas Carr 1845 or Anna Carr 1849 one of them must be the child of one of the Strachen children and none of them seem old enough to have a child born 1845 or 1849.... .......or am I missing something. Jean |

Received certificate for death of Eleanor Strachen, lately of Islington, aged 70 at Islington Infirmary, Upper Holloway on 9th April 1886. There's no mention of marital status and the informant is not a relative. I am sooo sure it's her and that everything is beginning to tie in after what seems like a Holy Grail of a search. If someone would be kind enough to read the info through for me and give their opinion I'd be very grateful as I can no longer think:)) Strachan can (and in this family is) pronounced Strawn. |
