I am fairly new to researching and have a problem with trying to find information on a marriage. There appear to be records missing with my ancestors name on. She was called Mary Ann Haggarty and I am finding that a lot of the marriage records for names beginning with H are opening with their first pages starting with Hai. The years I have looked at are between 1887 and 1892. If anybody can help me I will be eternally grateful!

Thanks everyone for your help. I was using the BMD on Ancestry uk. Merry You are a genius! She did marry James Finn and they did live in Blackburn. When I checked the relevent years the 1st pages for H were starting with Hai as I said before. I received the birth certificate for a Lily Finn today (my Grandmother) which is where I got Mary Ann Haggarty.

If you are using the Ancestry Complete BMD Index ranges & Images 1837-1983, and you are selecting the year from the list under the search box, then selecting the Q and then looking at the first page of the H's you will only get the first page of the H's that BEGINS with an H name. The beginning of the H's will be on the last page of the G's. But you don't need to do all that selecting! Firstly.....always try FreeBMD first.....many many years of the GRO indexes (though not all) are transcribed on this site, which saves trawling. And if you need to use the Ancestry pages, type the year and name in the search box at the top and you should get the correct page. Merry
