Help with old adoption certificate records

Hi Zowie I have no idea about Madrid I'm afraid, but in answer to your question about adoption papers in the UK, adoption only became legalised in 1927 so it's highly unlikely you will find anything relevant before that time. Before then, it was often a private arrangement between families etc. Mandy :) |

My g.g. grandfather came from Madrid originally but was adopted when he was 12 by a couple in Ireland. Whether this was legal or not I'm trying to find out. How can you find old adoption records. Also, because we know little about his life in Madrid, how can you find Spanish records? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks Zowie |
