Hi Christine, There is an old family tale that Samuel Plimsoll is a family relative but I still can not find it.

Looking through the earlier censuses, it's obvious that the transcribers didn't recognise a surname famous in the context of shipping safety. (For anyone who missed that bit of history...The no-more-loading line painted around the outside of a ship's hull is called the Plimsole line...?Samuel?) Christine

It is him, as the other family match up with the 1871 census (where their name is spelled the way I typed it!) Fred was a carpenter in 1901. Merry

I am looking for a frederick Western Plimsole in the 1901 census. He was born in 1865 in Exeter and died in 1911 in Exeter i don't think he got married but nothing would surprise me with this one. Thanks in advance.
