From the online help centre (always worth a visit) Family Tree Maker makes no special distinction between children born to single parents and those born to married couples. To enter a child born to single or unmarried parents: As with any relationship, enter the child's natural parents in the Husband and Wife fields in the Family View. Enter the child's name in the Children fields underneath. If you do not know the name of one of the parents, we suggest entering Unknown in the Name field for that parent. If the parents eventually married, simply enter their marriage date in the Marriage Date and Place fields. If the parents never married, click the Edit Marriage (pencil) icon next to the Marriage Date and Place fields. Change the Kind of Relationship field to read Friends or Partners. Glen |

hiya, you need to go into, ftm, with the family veiw up with the child in table at bottom, highlight the child and then goto people tab, click on 'other parents' and you should be able then to add parent(s) as step, foster, natural etc.. HTH JUlie |

Can somebody please help. How do you enter a childs father if the parents weren't married? I have uploaded Gedcom from here to FTM and it shown the father as being marrried to the mother - when they weren't. Thanks Elaine |
