I just wondered if anyone ever goes to Ireland to check on the BMD of their Irish rellies that they can't find. Betty

Would love to Betty, but the way they can string things out over there, it would take ages to find yer man, never mind yer man's man! Jay

Hi Jay, I just wondered if anyone went to Ireland because like me there must be lots of people who have the name year of birth and place in Ireland where a rellie was born but still can't find them!! Betty

Hi Everyone,, Thanks for all your replies to my thread. I just wondered if people do go to Ireland to search their family relatives born there. I like everyone else have been trying to find my husbands gr,gr.grandfather who came from Monaghan in Ireland and also like everyone else I have his name, year of birth, county he was born in and his fathers name from marriage certificate. How do you find them, I have nothing after searching for years. Wish you all luck with yours and hope you do eventually find them. Betty

I dont know if this has always been the case or still is, but I was under the impression that it wasnt a legal requirement in Ireland to register births. Theyt still might show up in Parish records though? please correct me if im wrong

Hi Rebecca, I don't know about parish records but I only know the county he was born in Ireland, not they exact place, also don't have exact date of birth, just the year. It is so difficult to find him. Betty

Betty - have you tried subscribing (free) to the rootsweb mailing list for that county? I have done postings on them and people have picked them up, even years later, and given me help. :-) Joy

Hi Joy, No I haven't put a message on Rootsweb but have had a message on Rootschat for some time now on the Monaghan page but no luck so far. I will try Rootsweb though, I didn't know about that one, thanks for the information. Will add to that, anything that will help is appreciated, thank you Joy!! Betty

Can anyone tell me if Dublin covers the whole of Ireland? And where the GRO is in Dublin. My grandfather was born in Bantry Bay, Cork. I maybe going to Dublin for two days in December so if Dublin covers the whole of Ireland, not Northern Ireland I suspect, would it be worth my while looking in the GRO in Dublin?
