I'm going back to the UK in August & I'd like to show my parents my home FTM tree. I can't print it (900+ individuals) & anyway I'd like them to go in & look at all the census data I've added. Could I take my FTM disc & intall it there & import my gedcom? - I'm guessing no because of copyright etc. Has anyone got any ideas?? I've got it on my desktop PC and my laptop and it works fine. Sam x

I have FTM on 2 cmputers, one with access to the internet and one without access (this has everything on it) but it shouldn't be a problem, just install it as if it were a new programme. tom.

Whilst you can technically install your FTM on as many PCs as you like, as long as you have the registration code, you are infringing copyright. The purchase price includes a licence for one PC only. It's up to you!!!

Thanks Paul, I've just had a look through the little booklet that came with the disc & can't see anything about installing it on more than 1 computer, maybe it's on the 'license agreement' that you click online. I'll check. But I feel that my conscience is clear - I'm not giving the programme away (my parents are like olde crone - they wouldn't know a gedcom if it bit them on the ear!) I'm just installing it elsewhere for my own needs..... Sarah :-)

I have a different but similar program on a desktop and a laptop. Its very handy having it on both BUT A WORD OF WARNING!!! I have got in a bit of a muddle by accidentally entering info onto both at various times. I know there is a merge facility but I managed to muck that up too! I have made myself a RULE - never enter any new stuff on the laptop. I update the laptop copy with a memory stick but never add anything new to that one. This way -hopefully - I'll keep it all under control! Anne

Most software is licensed in the same way as a book - you can use it on as many computers as you like, but only one at a time, just as you can pass a book around, but only one person can read it at a time. Mark
