How easy is it to find living members of a family,my nan had a brother and a sister and im intrested to see if they can be traced but dont know how to go about it,ie..how would you be able to know what year they were married etc....?

The only way if you can't ask anyone to help narrow your search is to trawl the index on ancestry. As a guide take the year of birth and add 21,then start working forwards,quarter by quarter,year by year,note any possibles for later use. It'a time consuming but free to do.Have you searched for the names on GR or other sites?Place a trying to find message on the trying to find board. The male lines are oftebn easier to trace due to them not changing surnames. Glen

So you are like me then,everyone seems to have your g g/parents in their tree,but no-one knows anything more modern. And no-one else is looking into the family!! Of course the other problem being for births around 1910-1920 the advent of WW2 seemed to throw out the 21 year guide. One of my lot born 1915 waited until 1955 to get married,but it took months to find the ref and several applications with father as a ref point to get the right cert. Not the black sheep are you? Chelle, Don't give up ... it's a painful slog through records! I spent 4 years looking for a Great Uncle - or more precisely info about him ... then one day last year, with a little help from my friends here (and there!) I found and met his 83-year old daughter who I didn't even know existed. Waste no time turning over the 'stones' ... otherwise you'll 'miss' someone and have regrets. Wish I could help. The brother may be easier than the sister........... Firstly.........do you know his name? And approx when born? Is it likely that he died in the period 1984-2004? If so, you might find the death on Ancestry, without lengthy trawling through indices. Reg

Maybe a letter to the local newspaper in the area where your grandparent grew up, asking for relatives to get in touch, might get a response. Gwyn

Gwyn my grandmother died when she was 25,my dad grew up with his uncle who then died when my dad was 14 then he looked after his self,so there is no one else ....
