My grandmother was an Irish catholic (don't know what part of Ireland). I have her marriage certificate to my grandfather, but there is nothing but a line under fathers name and none of the witnesses are on her side of family. Her name was Cecilia Chambers before she was married (although Martha on my fathers birth cert) and all I know is she was 22 when married in 1905. My niece can't find her on 1901 census and thinks she might have still been in Ireland. Is there anything you can think of that I can do to trace here or am I wasting my time.

Hello Cynthia She got married in Nottinghamshire in 1905 and could have been a brass bobbin winder whilst there but thats all I've got. I don't think she could have been a boarder in 1876 and she was only 22 in 1905, but thanks for looking

she wasnt-the 1876 is the birth year approximation, thats a census list -so its 1891 or 1901.

Hi Cynthia I've pm'd you Thanks for that, that definitely sounds promising, especially with the Cissie being deleted. If I do have to eventually have to trace her further back via Irish records, would you have any idea how thats done

this is where problems start-how many assumptions can we make- Ive just found a lady's grandmothers death in 1941 when her mother was always led to believe it was 1937,because of dying in child birth -not true-and thats more recent- she may have come over as a teacher and been forced to change jobs for some reason-its not a common name-and to have the right name ,and from ireland ,is very close on supposed married age (which could have been a lie ,as often was to make sure you werent older than the husband).......also rochdale and surrounding area is heavily mill area-milnrow in particular-she may have gone that way before nding in notts-i wouldnt discount at all.
