I thought people might be interested in this announcement. Hope this hasn't been posted before. Release date is Jan 2012. 'The 1911 census is a huge document – more than 12 times the size of the 1901 census, with 35,000 volumes containing the details of our 35 million ancestors and occupying some 2 kilometres of shelving. They are in good condition and suitable for scanning, with less than 5 per cent requiring more extensive conservation work to be scanned safely. In addition there are also 38,000 volumes of enumerators´ summary books that are in excellent condition. These are likely to be included in the online project as they contain useful and unique information that supports the census information. However, they do not provide the level of personal details that can be found in the actual census schedules.'

It'll be great when it arrives, but 2012 seems an awful long time away!! Kath. x

This seems at odds with previous reports and an article in YFT Magazine about a year ago which claimed that the 1911 records were in very poor condition as they had been exposed to damp.

I really can't wait till it comes alive. I really need to try and find out what happened to GGP family after GGM died in 1906. What affect it had on the family as they had 3 under 10 including my GM. ( just) I'm also wishing the days away for the 1921 Census when I'll be able to look up my dad :) I've asked the kids if they are still around to look me up in 1971 :D
