.........and I went throught the births as well.....but rather than looking at the names I just scanned the page numbers for those 580-582. There were several, but none were Brentford District. Could it be that Michael's twin was stillborn? If that's the case then the birth should have been entered on the stillbirth register, which is only open to parents and siblings of the child. Normally a multiple birth certificate will have the time of the delivery on it, as well as the date, but I am unsure as to whether this is still the case if the other baby(ies) were not born alive? Yes, but they will be in the GRO index in alphabetical order, so not necessarily next to eachother. I would contact the Brentford register office and hope they can help.

I was going to say that!! It's only today that twins get born in different places! (generally anyway!) I have a friend who has twins registered in different districts because complications caused her to be rushed to a better equipped hospital after the birth of the first baby! Merry

In 1945 the Brentford registration district covered a huge area, so I would widen your search to much of West London or Middlesex.

hi janice i hadnt thought of that, you would think it would be easy, but her twin died in 1990 and both parents are gone, my mum rememebrs the birth but cannot remember the name, no one else to ask with out causing upset, but i,ll try brentford thanks marcie x

Maybe it would be best to contact the Brentford Registry office directly as you know the date of birth/death. I looked through births but didn't find her - couldn't face deaths as well - not for Smith!!!

Have you tried looking for Smith deaths in Brentford in that quarter - females aged 0, then cross-referencing them? Janice
