Mary sorry for misleading you. John and Catherine Yelland were on the 1891 Census for East Dereham, Norfolk. John's parents John and Elizabeth were in Harleston, Northants in 1861.

Loads of Yellands also went to Victoria, Australia, at various times: http://proarchives.imagineering*com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=23 http://proarchives.imagineering*com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=24 http://proarchives.imagineering*com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=42 (replace asterisk with dot) There's also a Passenger Lists thread on the Records Office board with links to passenger lists (mostly Australian).

I don't see any Yellands in Northamptonshire on the 1881 or 1891 censuses. Can you post their details from the latest census? I've found a Yelland family which isn't yours, that emigrated to Queensland in the 1870s - it might be worth checking whether they're related, as emigration tends to run in families. Thanks for looking. Two Yelland families disappeared from Northampton after 1891. Have scoured the 1901 for them. Children had unusual names, no sign of further bdms. Will try Ellis Island!

There are births for children of John and Mary Yelland in the late 1890s in NSW Australia, but not Elizabeth and no deaths for Elizabeth.

Have you tried the Ellis Island site to see if they went to America? What makes you think they emigrated? Sam x
