Emma, Just to muddy the waters even further - 1841 Leeds Adam Syar Hagenhauer 45 Hannah 50 Catherine 15 Mary Ann 15 Marcus 10 Catherine Hagenhauer married Gustave Gabriel 1841 Leeds v23 p269 jas. If you add this to Catherine Gabriel marrying Alfred Perkins 1853 do you think this is same Catherine.? Elaine .

Hi Emma, Did Alfred marry Catharine Gabriel in 1853 ? It seems as if Catharine had Mary A before she married Alfred Perkins - 1851 Hunslet, HO107/2318 p47 f393 Hannah Hagenauer head 1789 Kipley (Ripley ?) Yorks Mark Hagenauer son 1830 Leeds Mary A Gabrielli G'daur 1847 Leeds This Hannah appears on 1851 living with Alfred and Catherine as a visitor. The name is badly written/transcribed on both census.Mary A is also difficult to make out on 1851 but i think she could be Catharines daughter. Do you know if Catherines mother was a Hagenauer? Will continue looking for Catherine. Elaine .

Well, without looking......could the child be Catherine's daughter who has changed her surname now her mum is married? Once you have Catherine's maiden name (or prev married name) you may be able to find Catherine on the earlier census and see what her situation was at that date! Beware though that if she was single and Mary is her daughter, they might not be together in the earlier census if Catherine is a servant somewhere or similar. Going out now! Merry

Can't get my head round this at all. On the 1851 census I have Alfred Perkins living with his parents. On the 1861 census I have him married to Catherine with several children. One of the children (Mary A Perkins) is shown as being 14 (ie born in 1847) which is before Alfred and Catherine were living together. The only marriage I can find for Alfred Perkins to a Catherine was in 1853. Any guesses what could have happened here?
