Jess, There does seem to be a lot of them about! Our Louisa should have the middle name Martha , and should also have been born in Pitchcome. I think it was a 'local' family. shame they didn't look after her! Suex

I think it's what Olde Crone says (though it pains me to say so, of course!!! lol) At nurse = nurse child, which, in todays language, would be best described as a foster child. Generally someone would be paying for her keep with the fostering family. Merry

Thanks so much for your input, it is all appreciated, my problem with the nurse suggestion is that she is only 10, and there doesn't seem to be any children in the family that she is with! Thanks for your interest, the lady in question is:- Louisa Gyde, B 1841 in Gloucester, She is in 1841 census age 2 months, not living with her family. In 1851 living wirh different people, who are still not family. Have no idea who her parents are. The 'At Nu' comment was obviously on 1851, haven't found her in 1861! Suex

At Nurse? She may have been employed as a nursemaid. Does the family have a wee baby?

Probably a mistranscription - can you give us her name, birthplace and year so we can take a look?

Any idea what this means. This is trancribed on 1851 census in the relationship space, can't read it all all on the original. The person in question is a young girl (10 yrs old) not living with her family. Thanks Suex
