Yesterday was spent mostly galloping round the IGI, via Hugh Wallis, lassoing my Isle of Man relatives. Tweo odd things happened. I got internet access in 1998 and from that moment on I combed the IGI regularly for my 2 x GGM, born IOM 1822-4. Nothing came up.Suddenly, about 18 months ago, there she was. I assumed that the PR for Kirk Michael had been recently transcribed and thought no more about it. But yesterday, I accidentally scrolled down the ~Countries page on Hugh Wallis, which said 'Copyright, 2002'. This must mean that the Isle of Man registers were already on the IGI in 2002 - why didnt I find them? I dont want to open up the 'rotated records' debate again, but what other explanation is there? The other odd thing - Hugh Wallis takes you directly to PRs, cutting out all that submitted rubbish. I was happily capturing a family when I noticed that one of the records was submitted! How did THAT get onto the PR? Anyone got any answers? OC |

Surely the batch number (Hugh Wallis) is just a quick way of lifting out chunks of data? I think the way the data is stored clumps together events for that name and place, regardless of whether it is an extraction or submission. As the overall % of submissions is small, if you extracted for a parish and then a name, there is only a slim chance of coming across a submission, and often you won't get one, but you might in another instance. Janet No, Hugh Wallis is a Site which was set up to access Parish Registers ONLY - cutting out the submitted drivel. The only thing I can think of is that somehow a submitted entry has been added to a Parish Register - the mind boggles, the spirit quails. (The duck thing was a little boy wanting me to sponsor a plastic duck for an end of term race, LOL) OC |

Isn't the whole site Copyright 2002?? So if another parish was added tomorrow it would also say Copyright 2002???? Gosh, he was brave..........don't you have a sign.....No Hawkers, No Circulars etc etc Merry |

OC I didn't know Hugh Wallis was supposed to be only extracted records. I almost always use that site & I'm SURE that I've had loads of submitted stuff. Perhaps that's just because there happens to be loads of submissions on the names I'm researching ?? Sarah :-) |

Merry As far as I understand it, Hugh Wallis has added nothing to his site since 2002. OC |

Yes Sarah, I've had them too when using Hugh Wallis - had some last night, but thinking back, they were almost all duplicates of extractions, rather than complete fabrications. Jay |

Merry - I'm not sure - I will check. Sarah Hugh Wallis lists Parish Registers, not submitted entries. If you access the ~IGI using Hugh Wallis, you have to select a specific Parish Register FIRST, then it takes you to the IGI transcriptions of only that PR. I just cannot see how a submitted entry could get onto, say for example, the Marriage Register of Kirk Miochael Church. OC |

AAAH! By sheer coincidence, the Parish Register number coincides with the first six digits of someone's LDS record of their family! That's interesting, and worth watching out for that you dont accidentally include a child supposedly baptised to the same family. (The surname was correct, but the girl does not appear on the baptism register - I checked this by going directly into IGI via family search and calling up the PR) OC |
