I received my g grans death cert on saturday. I know that it is the correct one as she is down as the widow of my g grandad. she is down as being 85. On the 1881 census she is listed as being 7 and born in 1874...... should it be 1869?? she doesn't exist in the 1871 census a child called Ada is down though as being born in 1869. I thought for a moment that Ada could be my G gran who was called Kate.........but on further investigation Ada died aged 3 in 1873........Now confused!!!! anyone have any ideas? Fuzzy x

The age at death on a death certificate is as reliable as the person giving the registrar the information. In other words, it may be a wild guess on the part of the informant, but the registrar will still record what he has been told. Liz

Thanks Lizzie, the informant was her daughter, but I am not sure she would have known how old her mother was as she was not registered. So no birth cert,there is also no marriage record for her either!!! I am beginning to think my g gran was something of a little fibber!! Fuzzy x

Age on a cert. can be wrong. We have someone who knocked 10 years off his age when he married a woman much younger than himself. When he died and she then registered the death, the age at death links to marriage age but not his actual birth year. Maybe a look for baptism records would help on this search or would you like to post a name so others can look for her too? Gwyn

Hi Gwyn Thanks for the suggestion, I have tried looking for her birth and from what I can gather from other family members she wasn't registered. Think I will just have to except she was a bit of a fibber, she didn't marry either but told everyone she was!! Fuzzy x
