Perhaps the Enumerator caught them in flagrante delicto as it were and knew them anyway, so thought he would record his opinion on paper - who was going to see it? They didnt know about Genes Reunited back then! OC |

Very often the enumerator would give more information than required. It says as much about them as it does about the people they were listing. |

I think it says more about the probable illiteracy of the population, that the enumerators could put down whatever they liked. I have a child on one of my census reports described as 'Base born'. Nice, that. |

Found a very very distant Rellie Mark Farrington (c1856 Golcar)on 1901 census he is down as married i know who he married but he's living with Elizabeth Ellen Illingworth (1873) (Single) and there are 3 children under the age of 7 years and one is called Polly Farrington Illingworth and another is called Martha Hannah Farrington Illingworth (He's also boarding with the Illingworth Family on the 91 census.........Is this his bit on the side?? Also his poor wife is at work at the time of the 1901 census Poor woman!!! |
