Does anyone know what information is on an American death certificate? Are they as useful as the Australian ones? Jayne |

Oooops....that info I left was in regards to birth but death also advices on one's date and place of birth, parents and cause of death....there are 2 types of death certificates, short and long forms....which I found out the hard way when I ordered and didn't realize there were 2 types. The short form does not include parental information.....I had to re-order to get that. When ordering, make sure you request the long form to include parents. Judy |

I have no idea at the moment Cynthia. I just wanted to know if it would be worth it. I am sure this man is a member of my family but I cant confirm it yet, that was what I was hoping a death certificate might do. I am going to look into it this evening/tomorrow, I will let you know. Jayne |

Did anyone come up with a solution to this one? I've found a possible record for my long-lost grandfather using the rootsweb SSDI search. - linked in to VitalCheck Network Inc. Their system charges: Non-refundable Processing Fee $12.00 Certificate Cost $15.00 Shipping & Handling* $39.50 (UPS expedited) Total Charges: $66.50 *or Regular mail $5.00 Total Charges: $32.00 This seems quite a lot, compared with the way GRO charges. I just wondered whether this route is equivalent to some of the iffy sites which offer to get a UK cert for £30+ when you need only pay £7 if you go direct. Christine |

This seems to be the Florida site for death certs: http://www.doh.state.fl.us/planning_eval/vital_statistics/deaths.htm The fees quoted there suggest that I was right to hesitate before going for the VitalCheck application. I'm e-mailing them now to see what it should really cost. Christine |

Hi: I brought up the website for Calif. Death Cert. It asks how you are related. What if you know the person that died but don't know exactly how they are related. I have been told that the person I am looking for is a cousin to my grandmother but not sure. Helen, you were looking into this death for me it was for Dorothy Emily Howard, how do I put down how I am related? Also, have you found any more information for me. thanks a lot. Regards Shiela |
