Just thought that I would tie up some loose ends in the hope of finding more 'live' relatives. Anyway in my Grandmother's bible she noted Crutchley birthdays for Alan of 15 Jan and Tom 12 May. I have checked the returns for March quarters 1900-1956 for Alan. My Grandfather died in 1956 and after that no other contact was had with the Crutchley side of the family so I am a bit confused. I have also checked deaths 1983-2004 and unsure what else I can do.

Could some Crutchleys have lived (or had their children) abroad?? Merry

Sorry forgot to add my Crutchleys were from Mansfield. My Grandmother knew very little about his family as his parents were dead when they were married. He was 39 when he tied the knot. In answer to the abroad question I would think unlikely that my Grandmother would have known them if they were. They had a very basic life and only just kept in contact with people who lived in Sutton-In-Ashfield.

I am up to 1973 now - gosh this is boring!

She wouldn't have written them as Crutchleys, but in fact they were the children of a Crutchley woman who was now married, but she didn't know the new surname? (long shot and not much you can do if it is, I suppose!) Merry

No they were noted as Alan and Tom Crutchley in her bible. In her bible she had the birthdays of her children and siblings noted and these two Crutchley ones. Unfortunately by the time we started looking properly into all this stuff she had lost her marbles. She died 3 years ago.

Who else have you got in the address book? Are there lots of people, or only a few? Most men would be pretty poor at remembering (say) their cousins' birthdays. One possibility is that they are adopted children. Another is that the birthdays were registered in the following quarter: April - June.

Could be they were known by their 2nd names and not their first names. Rose

The only Alan Crutchley I can see on free BMD is this one... Births Mar 1868 Crutchley Allan Albert Wolverhampton 6b 453 There is a Thomas born in the same place a few years later? Births Jun 1873 CRUTCHLEY Thomas Wolverhampton 6b 519 Georgina.

Thanks. I think I am going to have to check the next quarter along. Bill lived with his cousins until he was 39 but one of the cousins that I contacted who died in April has never heard of Tom or Alan. My grandparents married in 1939 and she had nothing to do with the Crutchley side which is why we found it strange that these birthdays were mentioned. They were in a different part of the page to her own children so can't be babies that died.
