Hi everyone, My g-grandmother was Mary Jane Brown - married William Dudley 1883. 1881 census has her living with the family of William Elliott - she is listed as step daughter and the wife (her mother) is Elizabeth Elliott. I couldn't find her in the 1871 at first, then searched for William Elliott and found what has been transcribed as: Mary J Broner abt 1862 Coventry, Warwickshire, England Stepdaughter Foleshill Warwickshire Richard Buron abt 1851 Coventry, Warwickshire, England Stepson Foleshill Warwickshire Alfred Elliott abt 1858 Coventry, Warwickshire, England Son Foleshill Warwickshire Ann Elliott abt 1852 Coventry, Warwickshire, England Daughter Foleshill Warwickshire Elizabeth Elliott abt 1823 Prescot, Lancashire, England Wife Foleshill Warwickshire William Elliott abt 1825 Coventry, Warwickshire, England Head Foleshill Warwickshire William Elliott abt 1856 Coventry, Warwickshire, England Son Foleshill Warwickshire This is on the record:Name: William Elliott Age: 46 Estimated birth year: abt 1825 Relation: Head Household: View other family members Gender: Male Where born: Coventry, Warwickshire, England Civil Parish: Foleshill Ecclesiastical parish: Foleshill St Lawrence County/Island: Warwickshire Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: Disability: View image Source information: RG10/3172 Registration district: Foleshill Sub-registration district: Foleshill ED, institution, or vessel: 11 Folio: 53 Page: 9 (click to see others on page) Household schedule number: 48 GSU Number: 839243 My assumption is that Buron and Broner are both misreadings of Brown (if so must have been an inventive transcriber!). Could somebody have a look see to check that I'm not just seeing what I want to see please? Mark

I think I might have Elizabeth and son Richard in 1861 - this time she is Brown but he is transcribed as 'Crown'! Did the transcribers think that Browns were too easy to find? Name: Elizabeth Brown Age: 38 Estimated birth year: abt 1823 Relation: Wife Household: View other family members Gender: Female Where born: Oldham, Lancashire, England Civil parish: Coventry St John Ecclesiastical parish: St Thomas County/Island: Warwickshire Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: View image Source information: RG9/2204 Registration district: Coventry Sub-registration district: St John ED, institution, or vessel: 30 Folio: 70 Page: 6 (click to see others on page) Household schedule number: 40 GSU Number: 542935 Am I on the right track here? To answer what I think is your question.....the step-children in 1871 have the surname BROWN. There's too much info in your request.....puts people off. Try to cut out the clutter......less is more.............lol! Reg
