Does anyone have any tips on a good Gedcom Programme? I'd like to be able store all my details away from Genes reunited and Ancestry so that I can decide who to put on which site. Thanks

The most popular one seems to be Family Tree Maker. Current version is FTM 2006 - costs about 24 pounds. Dont be tempted to the deluxe version that comes bundled with extra discs - they very rarely contain any useful information. If you haven´t got access to Ancestry then you might be interested in the version which includes a free 90 days Ancestry subscription.

I use Family Historian Version 3 which I'm very happy with but I think that a lot of people on this board use Family Tree Maker (FTM). John

Thanks - think I'll go for FTM.

I got FTM for a Christmas present and gave up trying to download it. All I get are loads of files which make no sense and nothing for a starting point. Absolute rubbish as far as I'm concerned.

I've been using Family Tree Maker for about 14 years. I started with the DOS version and updated myself to the 2005 version last year. I find it excellent all round. It imports and exports GEDCOM files and will produce ancestor and descendant trees as text, RTF or PDF files. It also interrogates Ancestry.com for possible matches. And it calculates relationships. All very useful.

I've used PAF for many ,many years. It's free and I think it does what all the other programmes do.
