How old did you have to be to be a witness to a marriage in 1884. I've found one who was 15 years old. Was that legal? TGx |

This topic has come up before. I think the witness just had to be old enough to understand what they were witnessing, but I recall that when I was a bridesmaid for my cousin, she checked that I would be 18 (I was - just) by the time she married so I could be a witness. Not sure if that was a legal requirement, or whether she assumed it. nell |
