not necessarily- I was using a little library- a county records office is different and you often need to register to use them and go in person-some do lookups but it isnt guaranteed-the other factor is that some libraries get stuffy about data protection and refuse to hand out details over the phone -it varies.

Thank you. So if I contacted the CRO for Chelsea, which is where the address is, they should be able to tell me who was living there in 1951?

It is possible that there may also be trade or street indexes for the area for that year depending on the library....I phoned Carlisle library up once asking for a lookup in the 1960's,only had a name-half an hour later she called me back with an adress.........I then went to tracesmart and put that adress in a special search section and it tells you who lives inthe same adress now.

Electoral Rolls will still exist for 1951 , but only in the libaries /CRO for the town concerned , not on line.

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to do an electoral roll search on an address, and if yes, is it possible to do a retrospective search for 1951 - or am I confusing electoral roll with census, in which case it's no good anyway!
