Is there a way of viewing or finding a whole family in one go (mother, fathers and all the children)? i keep finding gaps in children birth dates and just presuming there would be another one. can anyone help? |

Not really - unless all the kids were born within a span of census dates which means they are all at home at one time. What is the exact problem you are having? |

On the census you can find gaps of a few years because a child was born and died. eg John 1882 Jim 1883 Jane 1887 Julia 1890 It could be hiding two babies born 84-86 and 88-89 who didn't survive. To fill in the gaps you would need to check for possible birth refs,baptism/christenings etc,and of course death index entries. Glen |

Online is a bit limited, try the LDS site. Select advanced search then enter the names of both parents, nothing else, just the parents. Then hit search. Select the results you find one by one, discount obviuos non matches by area and date. Failing that it's parish records, but it depends exactly what timeframe, the later the births the harder it is online. Glen |

If you find a BIG gap - then start thinking about a second marriage. |

The fine-tooth comb way is trawling through FreeBMD on Ancestry (the actual index pages) using the surname and a span of years. Hard work but you should get there in the end if you do it logically quarter by quarter. If you do it for births and deaths you may then see a picture emerging. Even easier for the later years when age at death is given, and for people with unusual first names. You do need some idea of geography because the names of some registration districts aren't particularly obvious. |
