I have my 2x gt grandfather in 1851 born 1788 in Nordley Derbyshire I have him in 1861 born 1790 in Woodhouse Derbyshire, dont have him in 71 I have found a site that says Woodhouse was also known as Horsley-Woodhouse Now to my question, I found a christening on IGI for Francis Fletcher 22 july 1788 in Horsley Derby How do i know i have the right person as theres no certs back then. Can you please give me some idea? |

You look at the baptism to find out his father's name. You look a few years either side of this bsptism to find out how many men were in that Parish with the same name. If there is only one, you are probably right. Then you cross reference this with his marriage - is the father shown at his marriage the same one? Even better. But personally, I need a bit more proof than that, which may come in a variety of ways - Wills, monumental inscriptions etc. I frequently find myself having to do a mini village tree in order to sort out who is who. But if your rellie was hopefully called Randolph Tanqueray and not John Smith it should be quite easy. Good luck OC |

Thank you Jim, sorry i didnt get back earlier, but i`m in Oz and it was bedtime. I have found a marriage for Francis Fletcher and Elizabeth Rogers at the same church their first son was christened at, but no parents names listed. So will have to try some other way to confirm John Fletcher and Ann ? as the parents Sylvia |
