Boer War conscripts

I believe my Great Grandfather was in the Boer War, as he is not shown on the 1901 census. I am not sure if the war was stillon at this time, but wondered if there was any index on the conscripts who fought. William |

The National archives in Kew certainly holds every soldier's record but you say conscript - I don't believe that conscription was introduced until World War One. |

William- just a thought- I searched endlessly for someone in Liverpool on the 1901 on Ancestry- Out of curiosity I decided to try the 1901 on this site and up he popped straight away! Went back on Ancestry and keyed in census ref but it still didn't come up. The one on this site is the PRO- I contacted Ancestry to tell them they had info missing but didn't get any response.
