Thank you for all the information Ego, I already have the image for the 1841, but thank you for offering. As he was found drowned, I think it may be useful to try the library and see if they have any newspapers for that date. I actually live in Yatton, so not too difficult. Sorry for the delay in replying, got a bit sidetracked with a pile of certificates that arrived. |

Unfortunately its not covered on freecen yet,Brenda...I was hoping !........British origins only does 1841 and 1871.At least it clears up his year of birth as NOt being 1832,if we are to assume that the 1841 is correct. He must have been born 1830 at the latest possibly 1829. Ironically a James Flew got married in 1832 in the area. The James Flew of caroles by the looks of it was the only person of that name in yatton at the time- looks like his death was just registered with the wrong age. there is a james flue/flew who was 8 in 1841 but he was born and lived in Devon(Oakford) . |

I can't see any reason to suppose that Yatton census doesn't exist in 1851. This is from National Archives website: HO 107/1946 Registration District: 328. BEDMINSTER (Street Indexed) Registration Sub-District: 3 Yatton ff.227-491 Parish: Yatton Hamlet: Claverham 1851 HO 107/1946 Registration District: 328. BEDMINSTER (Street Indexed) Registration Sub-District: 3 Yatton ff.227-491 Parish: Yatton Hamlet: Cleeve 1851 HO 107/1946 Registration District: 328. BEDMINSTER (Street Indexed) Registration Sub-District: 3 Yatton ff.227-491 Parish: Yatton Hamlet: Hewish |

Just got death certificate for a James FLEW died June 1854 at Yatton, Somerset, age given as 22, which would make his birth year 1832. I have my James baptism in 1829 at Yatton, so place is right. No clues on death certificate as cause of death stated Found Drowned and informant is the coroner. James is stated as being a servant and address given as Yatton. Could this be the right person, even though the age is 3 years out. Cant find him on 1851 census, as this area is missing from ancestry. |
