Can someone help me reading a profession on 1901 census? Reference RG13/810 Alfred Day (fifth down on page) age 40. I cannot make it out. Is it traction engine something? Doesn't help having black line through. In 1881 he appears to have been an agricultural labourer (as practically everyone of my ancestors appears to have been). Thanks Rob |

I think it says: Traction Engine Assist. as in ''Assistant''! Merry |

Thanks both - yes I think you are right. I assume he shovelled coal or something. Rob |
