I am trying to locate some details regarding a WILLIAM BANKS. I have received a marriage certificate for his son FRANCIS (born 1827 in Bilston, Wolverhampton, West Mids) and married in 1847 to Martha Hinton - which clearly gives William as the father. I also know that William was married to ANN - I have found her details on the 1841 census (and onwards) having remarried to Abraham Chadwick (living in Stoke on Trent - along with her son Francis and Martha). I can only therefore assume that William had died prior to 1841. Is it usual for marriage certificates to contain deceased fathers details?? I do not know the best way forward now in order to locate details re William (ie, his date of birth, death, etc) as well as when and where Francis was baptised. Any ideas?? |

Have you checked the IGI on familysearch.org for them? There is a Francis but baptised either Manchester or Preston which doesnt fit with your guys place of birth - I think parents are a William and Ann Price. You may want to have a trawl on there |

I don't think you said whether Mrs Banks was still in Wolverhampton in 1841, but if she was then one of these could be her husband. Do you know the year of birth of their youngest child? Deaths Jun 1839 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BANKS William Wolverhampton 17 217 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deaths Dec 1840 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BANKS William Wolverhampton 17 241 Merry |

Merry, Their youngest child was Francis, born 1827 in Bilston. William's wife Ann was not living in Wolverhampton in 1841 but in Stoke on Trent. |

If William's wife was still of child bearing age when she had her last child with William, then it strikes me that he may have died close to 1827, rather than close to 1841. If he had died later she would have had more children! So.....Bilston Parish registers??? I think there were two possible churches.....Bilston St Mary and Bilston St Leonard. Merry |

Here's the William Banks burials from the National Burial Index. Stoke upon Trent doesn't seem to be covered :o(( Merry |

Merry, Thanks for your help!! Which web site are you getting the death index details from? I have tried the IGI on the church of later day saints website but didn't get half of the responses you did. Also is the number ref the age at death? (sorry if i'm being a bit thick here!) I did manage to find some more details about Ann's 2nd marriage on the IGI which was to a gentleman named Abraham Chadwick which happened in 1833 in Stoke on Trent, so I would assume William had died sometime before that date. I have the NBI on CD, but you can also access it on the pay per view site Family History Online. Yes, 28 is the age at death for the highlighted entry. As it's only an index you may find more helpful info by then checking the actual PR's......generally (for instance) the NBI doesn't give the parents names for dec'd children which may well be on the PR's.
