I'm using FTM's websearch facility & it's GREAT (for the men) but for women it seems to ignore the marriage date (& therefore name change) I'm looking for Edith A born 1870 who married Fred B in 1893 & it's giving me births in 1870 of Edith B (bmd's and census)...............;Is there a trick I haven't worked out yet???...............Sarah :-) |

Unless you know her maiden name, FTM will only search for all instances of her married name so you will get births and eveything for Edith B. If you are entering Edith A, it should only bring those matches up. Sam x |

Thanks Sam, but I DO know her maiden name - I didn't put it here because there is no need for anyone to go dashing off & searching for me (I can do it manually) it's just the FTM search that bothers me - why is it giving me birth matches under her married name???? Sarah :-) |

Sarah,if you go to help, then select the online help centre, you can pose any question you like and see several possible answers.I did check for your problem and there are several workarounds for the problem. Usually though if you have the maiden name it should search under that name, but personally i never merge any web results.Basically because the sources page is just a list of references to ancestry and no bmd ref numbers i find them better to enter manually. DOH! Thanks Glen - Hadn't thought of asking THEM - you guys are so much handier & human too!! I'll go there now. I don't usually merge either because you get all the copyright stuff coming up on the source reference but it's dead handy for leads & I've started on the (very!) laborious process of a spreadsheet with all the likely bmd refs on it. There doesn't seem to be anywhere specific on FTM to put them so I put them under source/ ancestry or freebmd/ citation for the event referenced. Sarah :-) |

Spreadsheets get a bit too techy for me,after all i have only just worked out ctrl+c and right click etc.(and added my counter!!!!) I started to add the peice and folio details to my census info on the notes for each individual, now i'm adding the known bmd refs too, plus any baptisms etc from familysearch.Tedious but when spaced for family group sheets they do look like some research has been done.LOL Glen |

Gosh, that was easy! You only need to go to 'edit criteria' on the top bar & make sure the maiden name is in there then hit 'search' again!! I know what you mean Glen, the source refs are really T E D I O U S when you want to enter every person from every census with the piece/folio/page etc PLUS manually going in & adding the residence/occupation etc for each census - which is what I plan to do - sometime!
