I have a relative who would like to view my tree. I have told her to register with GR. She has done this, but I don't want her to have to subscribe to see my tree. What is the easiest way for us to make contact on the site so that I can give her access to my tree? Would she need to start a tree so that I get her as a match? Victoria.

A non subscribing member has the ability to receive/reply to messages but cannot initiate messages. If you were to send her a message through GR and allow her to view your tree she will be able to do so. Glen

If she has put her name on GR then you should be able to type her name in the 'Quick search' above and find her, then send her a message and give her access to your tree when you send the message. She can't send you a message first if she is not a paid-up member. Kate.

Yes, but how do I find her to send her a message?

Hi, I don't think you can share your tree with a non-member anyway (may be wrong!) I tried giving my login & password to my sister & she couldn't get in either. Now I've got FTM I made a website (thanks Heather!) & sent her the link & it works really well. hth Sarah :-) Kate's suggestion sounds good but still not sure if non-members can view other people's trees????

Like I said, put her name into 'Quick search'. If too many matches are found it will send you into the advanced search. Kate.

Thanks everyone. Sorry Kate, our messages crossed. So she will need to start a tree with herself in it and then I'll be able to search on her name?

She could put a tree with just her name in it,no others would have to be added. Once you have searched and found her name you can send a message in the normal way,and grant access to your tree. Glen

Non-paid members definately can't view someone elses tree. I have two accounts (one paid, one not) and tested the theory! Sam x

Sylvia's right. Subscribers can view trees, but not non paying members. The cheapest method is to export your tree as a gedcom, get her to load a free program - Lunar has a thread on this - and email her your gedcom which she can then upload. This is actually far more useful anyway. You can edit out any bits you might not want her to see and she can copy in the mutual bits with much less risk of error.

Victoria There is another way around this... download your tree to a gedcom file...from genes... and put your tree on tribal pages.. free site... you can then password protect it.. and you can give her the password so she can view it on Tribal Pages... I add on here.. download to gedcom.. update tribal pages...so your tree wherever it is has the same names on.. Mo
