hi, I just found out my convict ancestor, Jame Pyne/Pine was born in Hounslow, Middlesex.Abt. 1787 I am trying to find him on Family Search, but it doesn't have a Middlesex option on the Search. Was Middlesex known as something else in 1787?? Thanks Karen in Oz

Try looking under Greater London. I am not sure that Middlesex exists as a county these days.

The Hugh Wallis batch nunbers has it as London including Middlesex. The bad news is the transcaptions for Hounslow are only Hounslow C042241 1836-1875 M042241 1866-1875 Too late for you. Linda

Thank you very much for your replies. I'll check greater London. He lived in Store-street, Bedford-square, when he was trialled at 23, which I assume is London. Thanks again

I don't know if you realise that the mormons filmed nearly all the parish records, but lots of them have not been transcribed onto the IGI yet. This is why you need to go to a records office to look at them. As you are in OZ, you may think you can't, but you can order the Hounslow records for the period you want to be delivered to an LDS centre near you, so you can search them. From the IGI search page if you click on Family History, Library ccatalogue which is near the top, then place search and enter Hounslow, you will see they have all of these records England, Middlesex, Hounslow - Church records Titles Church records, 1827-1836 Independent Chapel (Ship Lane, Hounslow, Middlesex) Church records, 1874-1908 Richmond Circuit (Richmond, Surrey : Wesleyan Methodist) Church records, 1892-1904 Staines Road Primitive Methodist Chapel (Hounslow, Middlesex) Data from the churchyard of the parish church of St. Nicholas, Chiswick, Middlesex Hailstone, Hugh W Marriages at Hounslow, 1708-1812 Church of England. Chapelry of Hounslow (Middlesex). Parish registers of Hounslow, 1708-1875, 1708-1875 Church of England. Chapelry of Hounslow (Middlesex). Then if you go back and choose Family History Centres, you can find your nearest one and order the films. i think they only askk for a donation Linda

The hugh wallis Batch numbers can be found here, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb(.)com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm remove the brackets If that link messes up, just google. They are very useful. If you choose a county from the list, then choose a town, you can see exactly which records for which years have been transcibed onto the IGI. If the years you want are there, you just click on a batch number and it opens a search page. You can put the surname in, or just leave it blank to get everything for that church. Linda

Karen, Store St is in the Parish of St Giles in the Field. It's also quite close to St Georges Bloomsbury. You may want to check out any parish records from when he was living there.
