I really think that the Irish authorities havent clicked as to how popular, and therefore a money spinner to them, genealogy is. I fear it will take years for them to wake up. Margaret |

You'll need a lot of patience with the Irish ones, It's taken me the best part of 16 years to get 4 generation!! |

GRO Ireland will accept credit cards, (Visa & Mastercard) but you have to apply by post or fax , as there is currently no on-line ordering facility. 10 euros seems reasonable to me. |

I was quite lucky because when I started a lot of my 'oldies' who were born in the 1890's etc were still alive and they were full of memories, one of my G uncles had photos and a great memory as well and told me loads. I also spent a very cold, very long morning at the parochial house sifting through the registers. I didn't get time last year when I went over, but if the new parish priest will let me I'll have another go next time! I know what you mean about Monaghan, my GGG granda was from there. I'm afraid the easiest way with Ireland is to go there!! Good holiday though |

Betty - have you tried writing to Monaghan Ancestry Clogher Historical Society 6, Tully Street Monaghan Co. Monaghan Ireland ? Also, civil registration did not start until 1856, but you may already know that. :-) Joy |
