Scottish certs - before registration - what info?

Gillian, The remark about the Millers was because Liz helped me with some census for them earlier on and two of the certificates I wanted to get referred to them. Robert is actually the grandfather of the lady that married my Miller ancestor. Robert's daughter died in Scotland in 1873. I'm basically trying to find some reference that makes note of Robert's parents, so I can figure out which of the three Roberts is mine. I will try those sites you mentioned. Thanks for your help. Margaret

Hi Gillian. (sorry for the delay in answering: school holidays, two sons, one computer - you do the math!!) I originally did manage to find some information through googling, but it was the results that now lead me to try and find out which Robert is mine. All I was trying to do was find out if Robert's first wife had died, and he left his two girls with relatives while he came over here. A reply on Genforum and another persons website have Robert coming to Canada with his brothers Henry and Alexander. They both list the same descendents of these three. Only problem is - one of them says it was Henry's sons that came over; the other says it was James's sons (Henry and James are brothers) AND....... both cite the SAME sources. That's why I was hoping for an age or father's name on the marriage cert. Haven't been able to find a death for the mother as yet, or find the couple on the 1841 census. Their daughter, my ancestor, was already married by 1841. The only mention of the other daughter is her baptism. Now my cousin has found another possible Robert born around the same time, same place............so it seems I may not have to figure out that mess above, but I have to prove that I don't have to sort it out, if you know what I mean. Where would I access the county forums? Maybe I can find someone else from this family and see what info they have.

Hi Gillian. The areas I am looking at are around Glasgow (Coatbridge, Mile End Old/New Town, etc) and Kilsyth in Stirlingshire. The one where I need to figure out exactly who got married was Kilsyth 1814. Was hoping that maybe an age might be on them - the three Roberts were born 1893, 1894 and 1897. The last 2 were cousins. Am at a loss where to go next.

Thanks Liz. I already know these are the right people - that Miller lot!! Just wanted a copy for my records (and maybe to see if they gave any more info). There is one other family I would love to find who the father of the groom is - have 3 guys of the same name, same area, around about the same time, and two of them are cousins...............Will definitely save my husband's hard earned money for something else!!

Hi Margaret, Marriages, only have date of marriage, bride and grooms names and parish or residence at time of marriage. Births, Name of parents, sometimes this does not include the mother, or it could be a baptismal cert which may also include witnesses. SP have examples of these certs on site, have a look at them before you part with any money, as in my opinion they're not worth the money. Liz

Hi. I have references from ScotlandsPeople for some marriages and births from about 1825 - 1850s. Any idea what info would show up on these records? The images are not yet on SP, so I would have to send away for each 'certificate' at a cost of about $25 each (with exchange) just to find out what is on it.
