Hi as you know the rough year you could have a look at the Irish Birth Indexes that are available at some LDS Family History Centres e.g., Chorley near Preston this one is open some evenings and Saturdays) Coventry It won't be full proof but you might get lucky and only have a couple born in the time frame which may help to narrow the geography done. Certificates can be ordered from Belfast or Dublin (I think its Roscommon now) and you have the parents names as a check point. Have a look at the Irish threads on the tips board, just put in the word 'Irish' into the search box. teresa INDEXES ALL OF IRELAND~~~ BIRTHS 1864-1921 MARRIAGES 1845-1915 DEATHS 1864-1959 Eire only BIRTHS 1922-1958 DEATHS 1950-1958

There are a number of threads on this board which discuss Irish genealogical research. Try searching on 'Irish family history' for the best of these. Good luck - Tim

Help! Where do I go from here! I've been putting off the day for a long time but I can't put it off for ever :o) I've made good ground with all my English research but I've been putting off making a start with an Irish grandparent. The main problem is I have such limited information to work with and a common name to boot. Unfortunately there are no living relatives can give me any more info. I'm trying to trace a Thomas Walsh who came over to England around 1906/1907. I know he was born between August 1886 and August 1887 and that his father's name was Edward from his marriage cert. A witness at the wedding was a Sarah Walsh and it's presumed she was a sister also domiciled in England. It's further complicated by the fact that he went under the name 'Welsh' after arriving in England and I only have hearsay evidence that he was originally called 'Walsh'. My only thought was somehow trying to link the names on the 1901 irish census but they don't appear to be indexed and I've no idea where in Ireland he came from. Even if I could run an index search I'm likely to come across more than one family containing those names. I don't like to admit to defeat but reckon I'm doomed to not even get off the starting blocks with so little information! Maybe when the 1911 Census get's released I might get an actual birthplace but I won't hold my breath as most just seem to state 'Ireland'! So, where would you start with such limited information? Or, would you just put it off a little longer like I've been doing :o)
