I found one I wanted on family history on-line recently. They have a very good search facility and only charge 20p for details or 50p for a transcription. You can also search by name of witness or informant for a death. I would only use a new site if it had a very good search facility.

Heather Well, it will only be as good as the number of certs etc posted on it - bit like Lost Cousins, it needs to get to a certain critical number before its any good. I am slightly puzzled by the legal aspect of this - surely the GRO won't like this? OC

Well, I dont know Olde Crone, I mean in theory they have no copyright on personal information which is about an individual do they?? In fact as descendants of these people I would have thought we probably had more legal right than GRO? (Im sleepy so cant think about it too deeply). Havent looked at family history online for a while now - I shall check it out tomorrow in case they have anything new for me. Righto, time for my beauty sleep (yes Merry, Im going to sleep for a hundred years). Nite nite

Oh Heather, I shall be dead by the time you wake up!!! Havent looked at the site, so dont know what format its in. Transcribed info is fine I should think, but wonder about swapping/scanning certs? OC

Thanks for that - I have just signed up and will enter all mine tommorow. Chances of me getting a match - who knows...but I suppose every good site had to start somewhere. Cheers Pen -x-
