Victoria, I should have said East of Boscastle for location of Minster. It must be the heat! So don't go snorkellng for Minster in the sea! lol

Roger - thanks for that on the maps - I'll have a look. Re: pob, you're right - I also noticed that on the enhanced image. I wasn't looking for Hendra, it was just that it has cropped up a few times elsewhere, so when I thought it looked like it, I thought it probably was, but if Minster is nearby, then that makes sense also. Thanks for your help. Dea - I think I'll assume I still have to find his wife for now. Thanks for your help. Victoria.

It is very strange: It is definitely not U for unmarried as there is no big curly bit at the beginning of the letter, BUT also, If look at all his other pages - for Married he always writes Mar, and for widdower, he also writes this in full - I would definitely say it is an 'M' but I am baffled, Sory, Dea x

Victoria, two bits of information: 1. If you go to www.old-maps*co.uk (replace * with . as usual) and search for Bossiney, you will get a map from 1887 showing Hendra towards the bottom right corner, just above Trenale. You can then zoom in on it using the arrows and tabs to adjust location and size. 2. (probably not so welcome, sorry) I have enhanced and enlarged that census image and it looks very much like Minster as Richard's pob, and not at all like Hendra. Minster is just west of Boscastle, so not very far away - I guess from maps about 3 miles as the crow flies. Hope that's useful. Update: in 1. above read Trendale

Hi Victoria, it was a long time ago! The cove is accessed down steep steps and there is a rock formation which looks like an elephant. There is a Bossiney House Hotel but don't know if it's old enough for you. If you type Bossiney Cove into your search engine you'll find lots of info - it was Sir Francis Drake's parliamentary seat, I think. Good Luck

Helen - that's interesting - is there anything you can tell me about Bossiney? I think that another of my relatives worked as a servant at Bossiney House - do you know anything about that? I am going to Tintagel in August to visit all these places, so any little bits of info or background would be interesting. Victoria.

Can anyone help decipher something for me? I am looking at the 1851 census as follows: Transcribed as Richard Tuccio birthplace Minster Cornwall, birthyear 1820 ; it is actually Richard Trewin born Hendra Cornwall in 1790!! I have managed to make most of it out, but can't decide whether it says he is married or widowed (especially as the entry in this column looks the same for himself and his son and daughter, as the daughter at least is definitely unmarried as she is going by her maiden name and I have found her future husband elsewhere). If anyone wouldn't mind haveing a quick look, I'd appreciate any opinions on what it might say. Thanks, Victoria.
