Marriage certificates before 1837

I'm trying to find a marriage certificate or birth certificate prior to 1837. My ancestor is Robert Robson born 1820 in Newcastle. On his marriage certificate it says his father is John Robson. In the 1841 census I have managed to find someone that is likely to be him - he is the right age and has the right occupation (Roll Turner) and lives with a Jane Robson (b. 1798-). However the father is not living in the household (I'm guessing has passed away) so I can't definitely say it is him. Can anyone suggest how I can link the names? Also in the 1851 census I have located Robert Robson living next door to a Joseph Robson (b. 1823). Although Joseph was not in the 1841 census it is possible he had left home then and could be related. Again I'd need to find his birth certificate to find a link. Can anyone help? Is there an 1831 census anywhere on the web that might be have answers? |

1831 census is of no use to genealogists. You will need to check the Parish Registers for the area that they were born/married/died. |

Have a look at the IGI (International Genealogical Index): http://www.familysearch.org The entries which say they're extracted from parish registers are pretty reliable, but the ones submitted by members of the LDS church aren't necessarily. |

also, there are no certificates as we know them before 1837. Baptisms don't usually have DOB or mothers maiden name Marriages don't usually have father's names, or ages. Burials don;t have DOD or a specific address. |

You would need to go to the records office for that area and check that they hold the records for parish that you want. |

Parish records are available a) at the county records office, often on microfilm/fiche b) your nearest LDS centre, though you have to order them and pay, they don't have them all on site! c) Society of Genealogists' Library in London has vast collection d) local family history societies often have transcripts for their area, and often do lookups or searches for a small fee nell |
