My GGrandfather did something similar. He had 2 names on his marriage cert. I couln't find him under the last one, so I tried the first one and there he was. His mother married, but didn't marry his father! He was in the register under his fathers name, but married under his mothers married name! How confusing is that lol

oooohhhhh, I am over the moon with the info I have just received. Some of you may have read my messages re. was my granddad a Roberts or a Maudesley....Well, I followed the trail of granddad`s mother`s second marriage to a George Massie, and 99.9% of the info I got was correct except for her name, which was Mary Roberts. I found that they married in 1894 so I bit the bullet and sent away for the marriage cert. it arrived today, and guess what????? yep, her single name was Mawdesley. So granddad, for some reason only he knew about, decided to call himself by his mothers maiden name. Phewwwww, I think a stiff G&T is on the cards, don`t you??? Kathlyn
