I have discovered from a very nice person on here that my surname is in the Genealogy Research Directory and they have given me a name and address of the person who is interested in the name. I am in the throws of writing to him but not sure what to include or say. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Gwen

Dear Whoever I understand that from the GRD that you are researching the Blenkinsop withers surname. I am also researching this name and would be interested in sharing information with you. Yours etc.

You mean there's a Coggiecorner one name study?

Gwen As you are writing to a complete stranger, I wouldnt give too much away, say something like I see you are researching the Bloggs of Mudwick. My Great Grandmother Selina Bloggs was born there in 1888 and I would be interested in exchanging information. Keep it brief - you may not get a reply and how infuriating if youve given away all your family! Hope this works for you and you get some good info. OC

Yes I am writing to a complete stranger and I have written the letter three times know and thats why I thought I would ask for your views. Yes after reading you comments agree that I had better not give to much away. The surname is not coggiecorner but Burwash. I live in Coggeshall so hence coggiecorner. Gwen

Hmmm. My attempt at humour was a flop then.

Yes it did make me lol but thought I would explain myself I have so many problems with the name Burwash I try to avoid using it as much as possible. I hate being called Bagwash or Pugwash and asked if my husband owns a ship. I think I would rather be a Smith or Brown, mind you when it came to research I would have my work cut out!!!!! Gwen

Gwen - you think you have problems. Try having a husband called Bob Marley :))

Its a great name for the jokes they are endless my daughter hates it especially when she is called Bumwash or Bogwash the mind boggles. In actualy fact it is pronounched Burrish but if you say it that way thats how everyone spells it can't win with this one. My husband keeps in touch with an old school friend and every year he sends a christmas card with a different version of the name and we have been married 33 years so you could say we have heard them all then he comes up with another!!!!!!!! As someone who has had my interests published in the GRD for the last twelve years, I would expect, and usually get, a brief resume of some names and dates that the writer is interested in. Just enough information to allow me to tell if we are likely to have a mutual interest, then more can be revealed later, if we have a connection. Please be sure to include an SSAE, or an SAE and Two International, Reply Coupons if you are writing to someone in another Country. Jennifer
