Paul You are right - I have had some tremendous luck with Parish Magazines. Sometimes I am convinced that our ancestors come looking for us. I was in a local Archives doing some routine lookups when a load of cardboard boxes were delivered and dumped around the room, getting in my way. I casually glanced at the contents (LOL) to find it was a load of very old Parish mags, for an obscure sort of Chapel. These mags contained a missing family of mine, some of whom had gone to the US, but were still writing home to the Chapel, which published their letters. The mags also contained BMDs, gossip, results of the fruit and flower show LOL and other riveting trivia. I would never have looked for these mags as I didnt even know they existed! OC |

Some libraries hold parish magazines and these can date way back. If your ancestor died as a parishioner you may find that a request for prayers was published, giving details of that person's ailment etc. |
