Jess & Reg kindly helped out finding the rest of the family but Fred's missing in 1891 Frederick James Powell Horwell born 1873 Ilsington, Devon He 's on the 1881 as Horwill (RG11/2162 f44 p2) living in Ilsington with parents John & Elizabeth then he disappears & isn't with them for the 1891 (he'd have been 18 then) but back again for 1901 (RG13/2054) as an 'army reservist' & it also states 'on furlough at home' (I think!) Maybe he was posted abroad? - I don't have a clue on how to go about finding where he was if he wasn't in the UK. Any tips/clues??? thanks, Sarah :-)

I've searched using every variant I can think of.........no sign of him. I reckon he was having a fling with my Florence Milsom who is also untraceable in 1891........... Reg

Thanks so much for your time Jess! Do you think it's likely that he be abroad at 18 ? or is it more likely that he slipped through the census net? Sarah :-)

Hello Sarah
Have just picked up your message about Frederick James Powell Horwell. He was born 1873 and married Amy Tarr in 1902 and died in 1953; all in the Newton Abbot area.
They had 2 children; the eldest, Seymour Horwell ran a well-known car showroom in Newton Abbot. His sister, Winifred died at the early age of 12.
If you require further information do come to me.
