When I married in 1990 I volunteered the information that my father was dead. I don't know that the registrar would have asked if I hadn't.

hiya, nowadays, the registrar will ask if father deceased, it wasnt always the case, back then, if the person forgot to mention it, they could well have been dead, as they always ask for name and occupation of father, but not nessacarily if they had died, like i say, nowadays they do ask, How do i know?? I got married last yr, both my parents are now gone, Is on cert as being deceased. Hope this helps Julie

No not at all. The information is only as good as what was said at the time. If the vicar or registrar only asked for fathers occupation and not if he was still alive, there might be no metion he was dead.
