Thank you That is a good site. I don't think I'm going to get what I want unless I buy them all.

Elizabeth In those days women's maiden names weren't on certs. It should say 'wife of'' or 'widow of' whoever & her husband's occupation. The name of the informant may give you a clue. There is a website which tells you what info you would expect to find on various certificates - I'll see if I can find it. Angela That's the one Mary!

I have a marriage for Sarah Huband in 1842. I have gone through the following census and assume she married John Campbell. There is a birth for a John Godfrey Campbell in 1843. I have found a death for John Campbell in East Stonehouse Sep 1846. I have Sarah Campbell with son John Godfrey Campbell in the 1851 and 1861 census. Sarah is listed as Head. I can’t find either Sarah or John jnr in a census after 1861 and can’t find a marriage for either one. There is a death for a John Campbell in 1865 East Stonehouse and a death for a Sarah Campbell in Plymouth 1864. Which cert would give me the best info? Would a death cert have the mother’s maiden name? Would a death cert have the wife’s maiden name? Or should I just order the death cert for the Sarah Campbell and hope it gives me husband John and son John?
