As for homepage.....do you have some type of MSN toolbar installed? If you didn't install it, perhaps a setting when you downloaded something else that had to do with MSN and there is a default setting in that program that sets MSN as your homepage (ie MSN Messenger?) Check the PROGRAMS folder on your C Drive and scroll the programs on your PC - see if there is anything MSN related, besides, say, Messenger....if so, uninstall it using your ADD REMOVE PROGRAM feature in your CONTROL PANEL. If not, try pulling up the MSN Messenger and check in their OPTIONS setting to see if there is something that allows you to uncheck anything that would change your homepage to default to MSN. When you change your homepage back to what you want it to be (which you do in the CONTROL PANEL under INTERNET OPTIONS) are you remembering to click on APPLY and OK after making the correction? Thanks for all your replies :) Sorry it's taken me so long to reply - been very busy today. Judy, thanks. I did try that but there was nothing to install. We updated the drivers from the internet as well. I'm at a complete loss. Shirley, thanks. We tried both methods to try to get a different one to stick, but it still goes back to MSN. I've started wondering if it's down to Windows Media Edition messing with the settings. Paul, our speakers have external power. A small green light comes on when they are switched on, so I know they are getting the power. I used the Windows Help (not that it did!) and it also suggested the BIOS change. I did look, but the sound was already enabled. Thanks all. x Tracy with no sound :( |

Hi, Some PC's require powered speakers and some do not? Mine required powered. The PC is less than 12 months old. Are the speakers you are currently using powered by an external dc supply (transformer) or not. If not, plug in a set of earphones into the speaker out socket of your PC and check for sound. If you have sound then there is every probability you need to buy external powered speakers. Also on some PC's you can switch the onboard sound on or off. When the PC is switched on press the Del key to go into BIOS setting and check if the sound is switched on. It may be called something like' AC97' onboard sound. Check your manual to see how to enter BIOS setup screen. Cheers Paul |

You might not have sound because you may have to 'install' the speakers..... 1. Click on START. 2. Click on CONTROL PANEL. 3. Click on ADD HARDWARE from the list. 4. An ADD HARDWARE WIZARD screen will appear.....click on YES, I'VE ALREADY CONNECTED THE HARDWARE and click NEXT. 5. Scroll the list and and click once on the audio choice to highlight.....click NEXT and follow the prompts. Judy |

I bought a new compter for hubby - one of those DIY ones. Got it all set up and installed Windows XP Media Edition. Started installing all the other programs and realised there was no sound. I've installed all the right drivers, the speakers are plugged in and it does have on-board soud. Why can't we hear anything? lol .... also, why does IE keep resetting to MSN homepage? |
