Ah, wait a minute....something is coming back to me....there are two places at which you can put in a check point I think - one is free (fathers name - John Smith) and another one, later on where you can request additional checks which I think you pay for ...am I right? OC |

As with Olde Crone I have found that either a) you get your cert for £7 or b) you get charged £3 for no cert if you put in a checking point that doesn't match what's on the cert. nell |

As its a while since I ordered a cert from the GRO, has something changed then? I usually order, with say, a checking point of 'Father must be John Smith'. If father IS John Smith, I get cert and they charge £7. If it isnt John Smith, I dont get the cert and they charge £3. I have only been charged £10, where I give TWO cert numbers and ask for the one where father is John Smith. Has it all changed, then? OC |

say you have a John Smith. You know his father is Alphonso, so you can order a birth cert for JOHN SMITH witha ref with the checking point fathers name= Alphonso If the ref you give for the birth ie Name: John Smith Year of Registration: 1907 Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec District: Southampton County: Hampshire Volume: 2c Page: 18 Doesnt have father named a Alphonso , they will not send it, and return part of you £7 |

Kerry, I paid the extra £3 recently because I couldn't decide which birth certificte would be the right one. For the extra £3 they matched the right one as I gave them the names of this relative's parents. By paying the extra, it meant I wasn't sent the wrong cert . Hope this helps |
