Hi i was wondering if there is anyway of emailing your whole tree to someone. My uncle is interested in seeing what i have researched but is not a member on here as he hasn't got the patience to do it, is there anyway that i can email him the tree so that he can see how far i have got? or do i have to give him my account details so that he can access it? Many thanks Jennie

You can instal freebie software on your machine, download your GR tree as a gedcom and import it onto the software. This is recommended anyway, in case GR goes up in a puff of smoke. If your uncle has a computer, you can email him a gedcom. If he hasn't, you can do a printout and send it to him. He has to join GR (ie pay £10) to see your tree on site.

If you only have your information on here then why doesn't he sign up as a member. Make a connection with him and let him see your tree. If your tree in on your PC, say with something like FTM. then you can create reports and email him those.

I don't think he has to pay to see your tree on GR. You contact him and give access.

As an owner of two freebie trees, I can say categorically that you can give access to others, but can't view other people's trees if you don't subscribe.

OK stand corrected if that is the case.

Thankyou for your help. I decided to do it the long way and write down the information that he needed and emailed him it that way. Thanks again Jennie

If you export your tree to tribal pages you get your own web space and you can then let your uncle see your tree by giving him your password. It will also act as a backup for here. All free and much easier to view.

The LDS site, familysearch has software to create a tree that you can download for free. As mentioned earlier, it's probably better to keep another copy of your tree elsewhere just in case GR somehow loses all your data. I use the LDS PAF software, it's easier to add and update people than on here, plus it can hold lots of notes for each person. Things like cousins marrying can't be done directly on GR but PAF is fine with them. I add new people to PAF then every so often I import a new Gedcom to GR.
