Brenda I have looked at original image and I think this is Isaiah not Josiah. The names are hard to tell apart as 'I' and 'J' look similar and Isaiah is often spelled Isiah.

John Thomas Smith is hubby's G G Grandad. Marriage certificate - John Thomas Smith 34, widower, married Alice Upex, spinster on 13 Sep 1881 in Peterborough. His father’s name is given as JOSEPH Smith, a porter. 1881 Census - Peterborough. John Thomas Smith 33, widower, born Morton, Lincs. is living with sons William Thomas 10 born Maxey, Northants. and Ernest Joseph 8 born Peterborough, Northants. Alice Upex 27 is his ‘housekeeper’. 1871 Census - Maxey. John Thomas 23 born Morton, his wife Elizabeth 24 born Maxey, son John Robert 3 born Maxey and William Thomas 4 months born Maxey. 1861 Census - West Deeping. John Thomas 12 born Morton is living with his Grandmother Elizabeth Ravell 61born Morton. Elizabeth’s daughter Mary Ann 20 born Hanthorpe is also living there. 1851 Census - Deeping Fen. John Thomas 4 born Morton is a visitor at the house of Thomas and Elizabeth Ravell. Also in the household are Thomas and Elizabeth’s children Watkin 23 born Hanthorpe, Sarah 22 born Hanthorpe and Mary Ann 10 born Hanthorpe. Therefore John Thomas’s father must have married one of Thomas and Elizabeth Ravell’s daughters. 1841 Census - Morton Thomas Ravill 45, Elizabeth 42, Elizabeth 18, Jane 15, Watkin 13, Sarah 12, Charles 7 and Mary 2 months. Jane Ravell married 7 Jun 1848 to Edward Franks. That leaves only Elizabeth Ravell to have married Joseph Smith. Only marriage on GRO I could find was Elizabeth Revell/Rowell Sep 1846 Bourn 14 411. Possible partner JOSIAH Smith. Found some Lincs. PR transcriptions online, confirms JOSIAH Smith, father Thomas, married Elizabeth Ravell, father Thomas, at Rippingale 3 Aug 1846. 1871 Census - West Deeping. Elizabeth Ravell 71, daughter Mary Ann Christian 36, son-in-law William Christian 32, grandson William Christian 1 and grandson Josiah Smith 15 born Morton. 1861 Census- Bourne Union Workhouse Elizabeth Smith 37, married, born Morton, Robert Smith 10 born Morton, Mary Ann 8 born Morton and Josiah 5 born Morton. 1851 Census - Corby. Josiah (mistranscribed on Ancestry as Joseph, original says Josiah) Smith 22 (c.1829) bricklayers labourer born Swayfield, Elizabeth Smith 27 born Hanthorpe (next village to Morton) Robert Smith 1 born Morton. IGI has baptism of Josiah Smith 25 May 1828 Swayfield, to Thomas Smith and Mary. 1841 - Morton Thomas Smith 44, Mary 45, Josiah 13, John 11, Mary 9 and Lois 7. So where was Josiah/Joseph in 1861 and afterwards? Elizabeth in 1861 says she was married and John Thomas’ marriage Certificate doesn’t say father was deceased (but may have been?) 1861 has an Isaiah Smith born Swayfield but I think this is Josiah’s older brother, although not on IGI. Josiah’s dad had siblings called Josiah, Isaiah and Lois so these unusual names were repeated for his children.
