They're good, aren't they, the Local BMD sites! I'd say that ''hit'' was very promising. You can always look back the GRO index to see if there are any plausible alternatives. Incidentally, I had a look, using the Yorks-only pages (which it looks as if you did, because there's no year in your posting) and found a later link between those two families - in 1935) Christine |

Wow! I'll have to look that up, I'm in Derby so would be a bit of a trek to the office but I might get in touch with the office and see what I can get. I'm going to have to go to work in a bit and I don't want to :'( |

For future use, perhaps, Emma... Have you tried the Local BMD sites? you can find most, if not all, via www.ukbmd.org,uk One set, which all use the same database/search software can be searched either individually, or en bloc. I used it just now to find this: Surname First Name(s) Spouse's Surname Spouse's First Name(s) Year Church / Register Office Region Registers At Reference HASLER George D PUZEY Doris 1933 St John (Newland) Yorkshire Hull HS/5/456 That means that - if you can find out where there are copies of the Parish Registers for St John (Newland), Hull, Yorkshire, you could get a copy of the Register page instead of a certificate. There are three advantages I can think of immediately: 1] The Register is the original record and source for all the others - there are NO intervening transcriptions at all. 2] You get to see the original signatures (or Xs) of the parties to the event. 3] It's often significantly cheaper - the cost of a photocopy, if you can get there yourself, otherwise there may be a research fee and postage to pay. Woohoo, found it! Wasn't under Hull or Portsmouth as expected but got it anyhow. Didn't know great grandmother's maiden name until now, I can feel myself getting hooked, just located the birth certificate reference for great grandmother and therefore her mother's maiden name. Someone better rescue me before I start spending a fortne on certificates! Is there some kind of family history rehab clinic just in case i need to book in? |

I'm desperatly trying to find the reference for the marriage of my great grandfather George Hasler. All I know is that he was born in 1911 in Portsmouth and died in Hull in 1998. I have looked all through the records for 1931 and 1932 with no joy. Any help appreciated as I'm losing patience fast! |
